The
Farm
Our farm predominately grows food for CSA production. Beyond that we sell to a few select retail outlets and restaurants in the area as well as chef friends who utilize our produce in impressive farm-to-table concepts.
What is a CSA?
Section Subtitle
Sun One Organic is committed to bringing fresh, local, organic food to the residents of the Litchfield County area of Connecticut. Our organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a vital part of that mission.
Today's market is saturated with overly processed food sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, often shipped from thousands of miles away.
But even beyond that, the modern agriculture system breaks the bonds between the community and their food. How many people know the name of the farmer who grew their produce? How many have seen the land where those sun-kissed vegetables are grown?
Whats in the box?
Section Subtitle
Our CSA runs for 15 weeks, from mid-June to October. We begin whenever there is enough produce to fill the baskets and you will be notified by email the week before the start date. We are a small farm with extremely limited staff. There may be an occasional week in which, due to scheduling conflicts, we will be unable to have pick-up. In this case you will be notified the week before. However, you will get 15 baskets over the course of the season. On pick-up days, you will come to the red barn at or any time after the pick-up time you signed up for. There may be someone there to greet you. If not, just cross your name off the pick-up list and take your produce. We ask that members bring their own bags to take produce home in. If you are very late, and especially if it is hot, we may put your basket in the fridge, if there is room, for safe keeping so if you don't see it on the table, be sure to check there.
CSA RUles
Section Subtitle
1. Sun One Organic Farm is a working environment.

There are rakes, hoes, and other potentially dangerous items lying around. When you come to get your CSA, you take full responsibility for your own safety and that of your family.

2. Pickup Hours

We have two different pickup times for CSA shares you can choose from: Monday 4:30-7PM or Saturday 10AM-4PM. You can swing by the farm on those pickup days and hours after the start time, but someone may or may not be there to greet you. After a while we will bag your share and put it in the fridge with your name on it.
3. If you can't manage to come to get your share on the pickup day on a certain week, please let us know ahead of time so we don't harvest a share that will go to waste. It's also fine if you have a friend get your share if you aren't available for a week.
Our
History
Sun One Organic Farm is a small organic farm located in the beautiful rolling hills of Bethlehem, CT located in Litchfield County.

The Maddox family has worked this land since 1890. Prior to being Sun One Organic, it was a dairy farm called Three Springs Farm.

Upon assuming guardianship over the land in 1998, Rob Maddox revitalized the farm with a clear vision, and Sun One Organic Farm was born. We offer a Summer CSA program, sell to local businesses, and provide many different opportunities for those who do not live in a place like this to experience rural life.
The farm has grown every season into 7 gorgeous acres of organically grown vegetables/fruit, with the original 'Three Springs' still flowing below.
Putting the 'Community' in CSA
Section Subtitle
We live in an era where the CSA model is under siege from large corporations that advertise pre-packaged boxes of veggies as "local" - shipped in from hundreds of miles away!

Sun One Organic Farm is committed to upholding ethical and transparent farming practices. We believe a farm is only as good as the people involved. That's why we strive to be more than just good farmers - but good people.

Whether it's hosting open events or farm tours, showing the community how we operate, we maintain an open-door policy so those interested may come take a walk on the Organic side!
